Your students need you here. Your team needs you here. Your administrators need you here. Research shows that teacher absence impacts student performance. No one can fill your shoes like you do. Paraprofessional absences also impact school performance and student learning. It is important that all staff members make every effort to be at work each day.
If a staff member is ill or must be absent for any reason, the absence must be recorded on the AESOP Substitute System. Registration and contact information for this system is available from the campus secretary. She will be glad to assist you in learning how to access AESOP, but it is the teacher/paraprofessional who is ultimately responsible for submitting any absence.
Important additional points to bear in mind:

Absences should be reported into the system no later than 6:30 a.m. This increases the possibility that a substitute can be secured. It also gives the school advance notice of absences and a chance to prepare for possible situations that might arise, such as, no substitute taking the job and substitute tardiness.
Absences must be reported whether or not a substitute is needed and regardless of the reason for the absence, be it illness, staff development, jury duty, etc.
For planned absences:

All staff must submit an Absence Request on Outlook to the Principal as early as possible to the expected absence.

  • This helps us be prepared to support your sub or have coverage ready in case a sub does not take the job.
If you are going to be absent for “school business” it is still your responsibility to secure a sub unless Nancy has told you she will take care of it. If you are not sure, please discuss the situation with Nancy.

Requesting to be off/leave early/arrive late etc.:
  1. Go to outlook calendar
  2. Click on New
  3. Click on Meeting Request
  4. To R. Waller /S. Miles/N. Nelson
  5. Subject: Anticipated Leave / Leave Early
  6. Location: Leave Blank
  7. Enter:
    1. Date you need to be absent/leave early
    2. Time if you are arriving late or leaving early
    3. Click all day if you are going to be absent all day

If you need to come in late and are going to get to school past 9:00 a.m., you will need to take a half – day and get a sub.

If you need to leave before 2:00 p.m. then you will need to take a half – day and get a sub.

For unexpected absences
A phone call/text must be placed prior to 6:30 a.m. to Rob. If he does not answer, then you may text him or leave a voicemail. His cell number is 214-862-4424.
