All teachers are responsible for reading, knowing, and implementing the District Grading Manual, Procedures, Regulations, and Explanations, PK-12, 2017 -2018. Each teacher responsible for giving grades must adhere strictly to the ROISD Grading Manual. Consult this manual first and then ask an administrator if you have any questions regarding grades. There are some grading changes, please make sure you read the revised manual carefully (when it’s released).

    Classwork – 25%
    Test – 60%
The ROISD Grading manual states you must have at least one classwork or homework grade per weekfor Reading, Math, Science and S.S. 1st – 5th. (Pg. 12).
All gradebooks must be kept current each Monday for the week prior by 4:00 p.m.. All grades will be posted and up-to-date when report cards and progress reports are due. A teacher must record the actual grade earned by the student. Parents have access to their child’s grades at all times. It is imperative that grades be submitted in a timely manner in order to keep parents informed and to keep you abreast of the status and documentation of each of your students.
    Progress Reports:
To give parents a true picture of students progress, at least half of the daily, homework and test grades should be entered in before progress reports go home. If you have any questions or if this will be a concern for a certain progress report, please let Rob know at the beginning of the Six Weeks it will affect.
    Grading Reminders:
Grades that are recorded in the grade book should be independent work, not group work (unless the group project has an individual component)
Grades are a reflection of the level the student is performing (Reading level, independent work etc.).
If a student is really struggling in a particular subject, then there grade should not reflect a passing or near passing(67 - 69)
Per legislative action, minimum grading floors, such as no grade lower than a 50, are not permitted. (Pg. 13)
    · Students who are absent have one day for each absence to make up their work (Pg. 15).
    · Late work (Pg. 15):
o May be turned in up to a maximum of 5 days after due date.
o All late assignments will receive a maximum of 10 points off a day for being turned in late.
Example: If a student turns in their assignment one day late and they score an 85 an additional 10 points will be deducted from the 85. The final grade would be a 75.
Lesser penalties may be imposed at the discretion of the department/team/administrator in extenuating circumstances.
Participation and Behavior Grades - If you are using participation and behavior as part of an assignment, there needs to be a rubric defining how many points participation and behavior is worth and what that entails.
